Happy Holidays from Mikayla and all of the citizens of Trio!

In Trio, love is different — each wife has two husbands. Women are respected and cherished, not exploited in any way. The mountain town of Trio was founded well more than a century ago as a place where loving and committed triads can live in peace and harmony.

If you are a fan of Maya Banks Colters series or Sophie Oak’s Bliss, Colorado series, as I am, you may enjoy Trio!

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop!

I’m excited to announce that we’ve been invited to our first NEXT BIG THING BLOG HOP for December 19, 2012.

If you are new to Blog Hops like I was, the purpose is to introduce readers to new authors and their books (The Next Big Thing).  It sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to discover what other authors are doing.

The way it works is an author tags you and then you tag four other authors for the following week.  When you are tagged, you answer 10 questions (see below) and provide a link to your book.  You also give a link to the person who tagged you.

My online buddy,  Kristopher Lane, author of Abundance Is For You Too: Experience an Abundant Life in 5 Simple Steps tagged me. LOL

Abundance Is For You Too: Experience an Abundant Life in 5 Simple Steps (Applying the God Formula)

At the end of this post I’ve listed four new authors for the upcoming Blog Hop next week.  Take a few minutes to visit each of their blogs and see what they are currently writing about.

1.  What is the working title of your book?

My book is Reno for Three. Of the five books in the series, coming up with this title was the hardest, just because there were a number of options but no obvious front runner. And, I have a reputation among my friends for being the Queen of Lame Titles. <sigh>

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

I had been working on the other books in the series and got intrigued about the research that can go into interesting fiction. I thought about an author who writes thrillers and becomes something of an Armchair Expert. Taking it to the next level — asking every fiction author’s favorite question: What If… she took her mad research skills and went in search of her family’s murderer.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

This falls under the Romantic Erotica label, because the love story is polyandry menage — Merry, the heroine with Ben and Jamie. In polyandry, there is no sexual interaction between members of the same sex. The shorthand designation is M/F/M.

In terms of the story, I place it under Romantic Suspense.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Hmmmm, that’s a tough question… I think probably any of the current young hunks could play Jamie and Ben, but Merry… possibly Emma Stone?

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

After Merry’s grandmother dies, she gets a letter from the grave… and it changes her life.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I am self-publishing, starting with Amazon and then moving on to the other online options. It’s so good to be a writer in 2013!

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I write pretty fast, mainly because I outline every thing in advance, then I *just tell the story*. I did skip around, starting with Reno, then writing Diner, then writing the three shorter stories and then back to Reno. I wrote the first 5 books int he Town of Trio from about middle of June to the middle of November, but I lost at least 6 weeks when my Mom had to undergo a series of hospitalizations.

She sundowns badly so I stay with her through the night and then I go home to  sleep during the day. I didn’t get any writing done, but I did print out the manuscripts and read them out loud to her during the nights. She likes to have a human voice to focus on, and no, I didn’t read the love scenes to her! LOL

On the upside, the nurses got interested in my writing and thanks to 50 Shades of Gray, they understood what I meant by the term Romantic Erotica, so all I had to do was explain that my stories didn’t have BDSM, they were menage.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

One of my favorite authors is Sophie Oak, who writes a menage series placed in Bliss Colorado. I didn’t find her menage books until I had finished these Town of Trio stories but there are a lot of similarities in what I am doing and how she is writing her series… I also LOVE her Petal Georgia series of Romance with Suspense.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

I am fascinated by the personalities of the partners involved in Menage Romance, which is my personal favorite sub-niche in Romantic Erotica.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I really enjoyed writing Merry’s character, having her apply her research and skills to *real* life. ;-)

Recliner for Three – Free Tomorrow and Tuesday

Recliner for Three will be Free on Amazon Dec 17-18

I have ambivalent feeling about putting books for free, so this is very much an experiment… It is my hope that you’ll grab a copy, read it, enjoy it and leave an honest review.

And, don’t forget, all of the Trio books are available for Amazon Prime members to borrow ;-)

Happy reading,

Recliner for Three – Vol 2

Town of Trio Series – Second in the Series

  • One large, obstreperous, slightly tattered recliner
  • One befuddled heroine
  • Two confuzzled heroes
  • And a large helping of Mom’s Chicken Soup

In the second book of my Trio Series, we are once again visiting with Tyler and Barb and Spencer.

Things had been going very well… in Spencer and Tyler’s view. Suddenly, out of the blue, Barb asks for a time out? Really?

They are feeling the Love of their Lives slip away, but are helpless to break the impasse, until they get a phone call from Fran, Barb’s best friend.

Hallelujah! Barb has pneumonia — a bad thing, but she needs round the clock nursing — a good thing.

This short book/novella is approximately 62 pages.

Recliner for Three is the second story featuring Spencer and Barb and Tyler. Their story starts with Laundry for Three and finishes (for now) with Diner for Three. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.

EXCERPT:

Unconsciously, she crept forward quietly, listening to what the men were saying. She realized it was Spencer and Tyler. She heard Spencer say that he had told his boss that he would not be at work until she was better?

Suddenly she realized that all of those dreams must have been real! Having Tyler snuggling in bed to keep her warm… Spencer plying her with hot, delicious soup… being cradled on someone’s lap while sleeping… clean sheets and clean pajamas!

Without thinking, she whirled around and rushed back to her bedroom. She placed the glass she found in her hand on the bedside table and climbed into bed. She could feel her flushed cheeks, this time from embarrassment, not from fever.

They’d been taking care of her! Tyler and Spencer had been taking care of her. Spencer had even taken off work for her. She thought about Raymond, the rat bastard. Her ex-fiance. He had just moved out to a friend’s house, a female friend, she learned later, and left her to fend for herself when she’d had pneumonia the last time.

They’d even brought over Big Blue, her favorite chair, and, if she was remembering correctly, they’d both sat in it, holding her upright so she could sleep.

Not only was this kind of thoughtful and caring behavior completely out of her ken, they did all this AFTER she’d told them that she needed time to think things over.

They’d left her alone and she’d figured it was over. Now this…

She scrunched down on the bed and pulled the covers over her head.

Must think…

Having meltdown…

END EXCERPT

We all know that every love affair has bumps in the road. Here is one of Tyler and Barb and Spencer’s bumps. But with the resourcefulness of Marines, hot soup, and some advice from Mom, they have their HEA!

WARNING: Town of Trio Erotic Menage a Trois Romance, M/F/M Note: There is NO sexual relationship or touching for titillation between or among siblings

The situation is a Menage – with two protective, caring brothers and a heroine suffering from pneumonia. There is a love scene with two wonderful men, Mom’s chicken soup, and the beginning of a devoted life together. ;-) Oh, and yes, there is an occasional bad word spoken by a beleaguered hero.

Recliner for Three (Town of Trio #2)

One of the biggest challenges to independent publishing is getting reviews. If you read Recliner for Three, please consider leaving a review on Amazon or elsewhere online.

Laundry for Three – Vol 1

Town of Trio Series – First in the Series

Laundry for Three is the very first book in my Town of Trio Menage Romance series.

Available on Amazon for the Kindle

Here, we meet Barb and, her future guys, hunky brothers — Tyler and Spencer. This is a short story, clocking in at about 21 pages.

While the situation – menage — is erotic, this is at the very beginning of their relationship, so kisses only!

We follow this threesome into two more stories — in Recliner for Three, still during their dating days and in Diner for Three which takes place just before their fifth wedding anniversary.

The Andersons are very much a part of life in Trio so you’ll get to see them in the later books as well.

Barb sees her hunky blond neighbor in the apartment complex and admires him from afar. Then, one day, she meets him face to face in the laundry room. He pursues friendship — she thinks, and keeps waiting for the infamous, “I like you like a friend” speech…

EXCERPT

In the living room, Barb looked around for something to read while she waited for her laundry. Yesterday, she’d splurged on a new menage anthology. She was too shy to read it in public, since the cover was clearly two men and a woman, having… fun? But, again, no one would be around so, what the hell?

That final decision made, she gathered up her rolling hamper, loaded the laundry soap on top of the clothes, added the book so she’d have a hand free for her sippy cup and headed out the door.

As she wheeled her rolling hamper across the parking lot, she thought she saw a curtain flutter in an apartment window on the other side. She didn’t know anyone in that building, it was a large complex, but she had noticed that was where the blond hunk lived.

Yes, she was shallow, she freely admitted it. She’d seen him move in recently and had fallen hard, suffering from what she recognized was a strong case of love at first sight. The minute her eyes met his, her heart started beating and her libido sat up and said, “It’s him. He’s the one.”

That had never, ever, come close to happening to her. She didn’t believe in love at first sight.

Ever the pragmatist, she also had a wager going with herself that he was gay. She bet that he wasn’t, herself bet that he was, and the loser was going to provide a pint of Haagen Dazs Creme Brulee Ice Cream. None of the grocery stores nearby carried that flavor so it would entail a trip to the other side of the city. Either way, Barb was looking forward to the outcome of the bet.

END EXCERPT

I started the Town of Trio series as a way to explore the characters and relationships in menage, and yes, this is an HEA series. ;-)

Where appropriate, the sex is, I hope, hot and steamy.

This short story is approximately 21 pages – perfect for a lunchtime read.

While the situation is a potential Menage – with two hunky brothers and a bewildered heroine, this story has nothing but love and a few kisses. ;-) There is an occasional bad word spoken by a beleaguered hero.

Reno for Three – Town of Trio Menage Romance

Town of Trio #5 – Reno for Three

I am getting soooooo close to publishing! Barring Mom emergencies and issues… <fingers crossed>

Got Reno for Three (Think RENOVATION, not Reno Nevada LOL) back from Crit partner #1. She offered a tweak for the big fight scene at the end, but no major problems… If Crit partner #2 has no major problems, I’ll be able to publish all 5 at the same time !!!!

Once I have typos corrected etc, I’ll be posting an EXCERPT here.;-)

Tales of Trio – Book 1 First Draft is finished!

First draft is finished in, my Tales of Trio – Book 1: Barb, Tyler, and Spencer’s story

I don’t have a title for it yet. I am going to wait and get thru the next draft then start a list of possibles.

I have been happy dancing for the last couple of hours. I ran into my only local writing friend and was able to tell her… it is so nice to have good friends who understand. I have shared with a couple of my online friends about it. I am so energized, I am settling down to work on Book 2. Its rough draft is about 2/3 done. ;-)

Happy Dancing!

Imagining the Heroes

Heroes in Trio Menage Stories

I have a good imagination and I am familiar with the creative process as it relates to design and visual art.  I am discovering that the writing process is surprisingly different… even the visual aspects of it.

Following advice, I had picked out images for the heroes in my current project. As things progressed, I discovered that while the brothers were Culinary Institute of America trained chefs, they were also both former Marines. I was working on a scene and things just weren’t coming together.

In the course of my creative procrastination, I went back and looked at the images I had for the heroes. They were handsome enough… but, I discovered, they were also really metrosexual. There was no way I could believe that they were Marines of any kind…

So I went back and found two other pictures… now they looked like Marines, albeit hunky ones! Realizing how much that change had helped the writing issue I was having, I printed out their pictures and taped them just below my monitors on my desk. Woof! Now I have some VERY handsome and manly eye candy to inspire me. ;-)
